teeny Miss E.

The first thing her mom told me was how tiny she was. She was a little one when I had her as a newborn, but to still be so teeny as a 6 month old blew me away. She is a whopping 13 lbs. The main reason that amazes me is my oldest son was born at 11 lbs!

Now don’t let her size fool you. She is doing fabulous and is super adorable and danty…the way girls should be! We of course did a quick excursion out to one of my fields, because the second I saw her Christening gown, I saw black chair and field. She is still a little wobbly on the sitting thing (most are at this age), but she did fabulous. Then it was back to my home studio for some baby shots. A little bit of toe munching, dress up, and great light.

Happy Birthday…Miss C.

It’s been 1 full year. From mommies tummy to now. I have to say it chokes me up a bit. When you photograph a client every 3 months for a year, you really start to know the family. And I hope I will get to see her more (mom, promised :) ).

Little Miss C, is a very ambitious and happy little girl. I should have know that she was going to be busy for this session. She walked all over the place! I bet she had a good nap…I know I needed one!

And a little celebration cupcake in the botanical gardens…why not? Oh, and this little munchkin may have to be a foot model. I get the best toe and leg images out of her!

growth.

Growth is good. Scary but good. Some of you know a little about my husband and I and some of you know a ton. One thing that most people know about us is that we work really hard, remain relatively laid back, have 3 kids, and 4 businesses between us. Photography being one of them that I picked up as a hobby and fell in love with it. I am a business woman, and I love every aspect of being one. I love owning, buying, designing, creating, selling, and even the hard work. So it was only natural when I realized how much I loved photography, and other people love my photography too, was to create a business. So a little over a year and a half ago, Marta Locklear Photography got started. Slowly, but a start indeed. I have kept it slow because I have a 1 yo, 2 older children, another full time job and another side business. I wasn’t ready to push, I needed to work on my craft and product. The business is growing way faster than I could have expected, and faster than I am able to keep up with. This left me with two options. Slow it down, or build it up.

And I want this. I love this. So we decided to go for it and we leased a studio space. It has two offices, one will be for both of us to train new employees for the other job. And the other will be all mine. A gallery of my work, meeting space and a proofing space. I have been desperately in need of this for a while. No more meeting wedding clients in Starbucks or Panera. No more dropping off and picking up in other peoples places. And no more email and phone orders. You will get to sit down, look through product, and really get a feel for what you are buying. Much more hands on, and much more professional. It does not have a studio space, but I do have full access to some lofts that I will be taking advantage of. One day when the time is right I will have a natural light studio, and that will be the day my business will be complete. Until then, baby steps (actually, huge scary steps, but I want to remain positive).

So now it is time, time for growth, time for risk…time for me. Below you will see a token of my new space. More images and news will be coming, but I just couldn’t wait to share. I am so excited and now it is time to put on my decorator cap, and get to work! I want to thank my family and all of my past and current clients for believing in me, and my photography. Here’s to many more years and a stronger business and skill!

Wedding on the Farm

My first wedding of the year, and what a great one! The weather was skeptical since we had a borderline typhoon the night before. But it held off in plenty of time. Michelle & todd were one of my early engagement sessions of last year and I have been so excited to do this wedding. You can tell from bein around them just how natural and in love they are.

The wedding was beautiful. The florals just popped, gorgeous white tent, local wine bottle tikis, stunning crisp white and lavendar settings, and family and guests that treated me as one of their own. Michelle and her family did a great job pulling all of this together. I am a huge sucker for details and this was not short of them. My favorite one is not obvious at first but once you knew…it made your heart flutter. Todd is a chemist and they have spent most of their relationship distant due to his schooling. Michelle did a great job of incorporating this very important part of their relationship into the day. All of the reception florals were displayed not in vases, but chemistry flasks, beakers, and such. It was such a great little detail.

I have spent the better part of the morning trying to widdle this down to a sizable post…but there were just so many great elements. This may be a lot of pictures.

Good luck to both of you, I wish you the best!
