Miss H

I know, I know…its been a while. Not because I have not been super busy, just too busy to post!

This is little Miss H, and she made me miss my Bean being a little girl really bad. My Bean is going to be 10 in a few months (ouch, mommy of a double digit kid….getting old!), and this little girl looked just like my Bean did. It really brought back a lot of memories.

As most of my sessions go….with the flow….this one was no different. Mom and I had talked about the field and chair shot, but thought Miss H was not sturdy enough, but in the end we decided to pack up and hit the field anyway. Dad was a great body guard for the grass curious little monkey, while mom jumped around getting her attention and I shot away. I just love those fields. I also last minute remember my white bowl. Miss H was not sitting all the way on her own yet, but I so badly wanted to capture her in the yummy light of that window, and the bowl did just the trick. What out future little ones…the bowls are not just for my newbies anymore :)

Mr. A

Mr. A is here. He is the delicious little monkey of this couple. He weighed in over 9 lbs and 22 inches long, but don’t let that poundage full you, he was not the little chunkster my 9 lbers were. This little guy was all legs, fingers and feet. He was SO good to me and this is just why I like them at 1 week old. Daddy gave him a full bottle, burped him and then he passed right out. I was able to do so many things with him. I even got him (all 9 lbs) in a bowl my dear friend and fellow photographer Kristi Hedberg sent to me. She knows I am a bit of a bowl nut for my bowl baby series and sent me this beautiful pottery planter. This is not a very big bowl and I knew it would need a special baby in it. One that was sound asleep and still super curly. Mr. A, had the promise of those attributes and he came through for me, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. It is just tough deciding between color or black and white versions.

And then there was Dad’s tattoo. He was willing to show it off in the maternity session, and I was so so happy that he did it again for this shot. This image had been on reserve in my head for when the baby came, I was just waiting patiently for the day to come. Thank you Dad for going shirtless, you are one of the few to brave it. Hopefully you will inspire future Dad’s to come, and not just the mommies go bare to bare with the baby. I can’t wait for the next year of images with all 3 of you.

touch of tude…

Is all you need to get started in the model industry :). This is my second session with this little beauty and even though she was not feeling well (we later found out) she still performed beautifully. She is working on becoming a model and actress, and once you meet her and talk to her you will quickly realize she is one of those outgoing kids that can do it. Although I say “touch of tude” it was not in the sassy or rude category at all. She is very polite, friendly and patient. But when I asked for “tude” I got it :), fast. Her mom and I were cracking up the whole time. She would smile and be ready and then I would say “no smile this time” and before the words left my lips, and in mere seconds she was calm and in focused face or even a touch of tude. It was so much fun. Not to mention she is very photogenic…not a drop of PS on her skin or eyes. Just color and contrast. I was sorry to here from her mom the next day that she too got the “mystery bug” that my kids had that produced the 103 fevers that night. I wonder how amazing she would have been in full great health…keep an eye out for this little one.

BTW- I LOVE doing these urban sessions.

growing pains…

I want to take a moment to address some growing pains that I have been experiencing. As most of you know I work another job with my husbands company, and have 3 kids. The photography business is my love, my passion and career path of choice (after my kiddos and hubby of course). But I never expected for the business to grow as fast as it has, and I have been experiencing some glitches along the way. There are not any “how to run a photog biz” books out there, especially one on how to do it with another full time job and 3 kids :). So I have had to research, adjust, change, and add on to this business on almost a daily basis. And that is fine, but with that, comes hiccups. You throw in the fact that my hubby’s business has also boomed this year, 3 kiddos that just started school, two of which just got the mystery bug, weather Gods that have chosen to be cloudy or rainy on 75% of my sessions and you have a woman pulled in multiple directions. I am not complaining. I don’t like to do that. But I do want you, my wonderful clients and friends, to be aware that I am aware. I know that I have been late on proofing some sessions, I don’t get to emails as fast as I should, and the phone calls are not immediate. All of these things are on my mind at all times. And I am sorry for that, and very very grateful for the amazing amount of patience you all have had. I am eternally grateful.

So with growing pains, comes growth and improvement. We have hired an employee to start to do my work for my husbands business. This will take some training time, but hopefully before we know it, I will be phased out…whoo hoo! I am working on the new studio which will give me more focused and distraction free time to work and meet with my clients. I am also putting it together so it is VERY organized. I am possibly even bringing on an employee to help me with the office work ( so if you know anyone that is insanely organized and wants some part time work…let me know). I have also started working with new software that is WAY faster and really helping me out.

My goals by the end of the year.

-Less than 1 week turn around on session proofs (yes, you read that correctly, not the sneak peeks, but the actual proofs).

-Proofing sessions in my new studio. This way you can actually see the items that you are purchasing and we can view the images side by side on my big calibrated monitor.

-More literature to help you with preparing for your sessions. I do want to let you know, I am totally for being as green as possible. I am not a nut, but I do prefer digital over paper if possible. So most of this will be digital files.

-Faster, better, and more informative customer service. Emails will be returned faster, more phone calls will be made and scheduled, and print turn around will be much faster.

- Happier me and you!

So again, I thank you my darling clients for you generous patience and understanding! I do love what I do, I love my busy hectic life, but it is time to evaluate, organize and deligate. This mommy just can’t do it all anymore! I am very excited and very eager for the things to come. And I just know that 2009 is going to be an amazing year. You all are wonderful!

Here is an image I took out in the fields during a session (I think we were waiting for a cloud to pass). It calms me… enjoy.
