My goodness...I thought I was just reading about my life! It really is hard balancing it all (I am a mother of two with an amazing husband, supportive family and photographer). I have owned my own business(es) for over five years and it has been an extreme balancing act that has never been very balanced. I cherish the friends that have stuck around...I am so lucky for those few who held on and supported me! I wish I had the answer of how to succeed in business while balancing your family, friends and the extra curricular activities that make life...life! And how to make it work in my life! I am so glad for this post in knowing I am not alone in this struggle!

Sometimes we are harder on ourselves than the people that love us are. Your friend knows where you are coming from - and that is wonderful. You are doing so much and trying so hard for your family. The fact that you love and care about your friends and recognize that you may not have been as "there" as you would have liked is a testament to how amazing you are. You haven't forgotten them. Life is really hard and also very rewarding. I'm glad you were able to go to the book club meeting and I'm glad that your friend showed you a token of what you mean to her. I'm sure she understands what's in your heart. That's what real friends do.

I'm thrilled that you will be able to get an assistant and free up a bit more time for "fun stuff" You deserve it! I don't know you too well - but I feel like I do in a way because your photography really touches me - I can tell you have a huge and wonderful heart. Your husband and children are so blessed to have you as are your family and friends - and even your clients!

thank you all for your comments! It has been a hard and humbling lesson to learn, but one I know/hope I am not alone with the struggle. Even my own family (not my household), but those that do not live with me, have no idea just how hard Jamie and I push. We are building our empire, so our kids can have what we did not, and one day it will all pay off, and we will have all the time we want. We just have to push hard for a few years to get things all off the ground and running smoothly.
