New Email Addresses

I am going to finally retire my Yahoo account. I know, I know, it needed to be done a long long time ago. I have so many folders and things I go back to there. All of my clients are cataloged there, etc. So it was a big deal to make the change. In the chaos of growing this business, it is just one thing I did not take time to change. So now…it is time! Whoo hoo!

The new address is

marta@martalocklear.com

and the boutique address is

mlb@martalocklear.com

I will still have the Yahoo, until I think that all is aware of the change and I get everything forwarded that I think need to be forwarded.

Thank you for your patience! Hopefully this will also solve the Spam mail issue I have been having as well.

Much love,

Marta

Color – Virginia Photographer

I was a little nervous going into this session. Normally I try to get to my newborns around 1 week old, but my family was sick and I regretfully postponed the session to avoid spreading the winter bug wealth. To top it off, I knew this munchkin was a bigger baby (which means strong and generally not as flexible and sometimes way more alert). To add to it all, I drove to them in Charlottesville, VA. The drive I don’t mind…what mom of 3 with 3 business minds 1.5 hours of quiet? But when going to someone else’s home I have to rely on their decor, light and space. Light is the most important since some homes can be on the darker side or not have many windows, space is another battle for me since I like to shoot with Prime lenses and that limits my range a little bit, and then the decor. The decor is minor, your home is your home, but I can only bring so much of my own things with me to add to the images.

So I arrive to an adorable home in Charlottesville and greeted by a beautiful blonde toting an even more beautiful munchkin (sorry but the baby wins the cute battle). Walk in and there is color and pattern EVERYWHERE! Whoo hoo, photographer jackpot. Trying to restrain myself from the green room (a touch partial), bold orange damask curtains in a bay window non-the-less, and carpets oozing pattern and color. So, immediately I am calmed by the fact that I will have plenty to shoot with. Onto task two, tackling the mildly older baby. He did not want to sleep, not just that, but he was a touch on the fussy side. Mom said he had been that previous night, but with patience, and much more milk, a binky, poo relief on Dad, we were off to a very happy and sleepy baby. So we did it all! Once he was asleep he let me do anything to him, bowls (yep, got him in more than one, even as big as he was), several rooms, and of course with Mom and Dad.

At the end a few images of their favorite (very quick and happy) pups, and I was off as a happy photographer and relieved that the first session of the new year was a great one! And keep checking in…I will be posting a bit about Mom’s new Salon soon, when she is ready to start taking in work! Enjoy a little sneak peek!

2009 Here I Come! – Virgina, DC Photographer

Happy New Year Everyone! I hope you and your family have had a wonderful Holiday, we did. Our family spent a good bit of the “off time” sick, but it was nice to be together, catch up on some Guitar Hero, crafts, and wrestling. We are all on the mend now (if the weather decides to stay one way or the other), and are eager to get started on a fresh new year.

As promised I am going to be blogging much more this year. Personal, clients, and just the goings on in my busy world and the world of my photographer friends. I have made a new blog mailing list for this year and the years to come. If you did not receive an email for this post then you are not on the new list. If you wish to be please sign up below.

Today I was home with 3 kids, at the end of week long sicknesses, and we were just plum bored. My Assistant Natalie had stopped by to help with some Baby Skins and to listen to me ramble on and on about the business and then I had an idea…

My little one has a new habit that when he gets out of the shower he like to be swaddled in his towel, layed on his changing table and tucked in until he is ready to get out. The last few times he has stayed like that (demanding every part of him be tucked in, face and all) for more than 10-15 minutes. Maybe it reminds him of all the baby carrying I did (18 months), or his own little way of fighting the cold air. This morning after his bath, he did it again and I thought that he may let me swaddle him. So after working on the Baby Skins I had a scrap that was a bit larger so I decided to strip him down and go for it.

In a nice warm sunlit window, naked 22 month old (he did pee, so all you newbie parents that your little ones peed on me or my things, even my own kids do it…you are not alone :) ), I got my bean bag ready and began to swaddle my little one. He LOVED it, let me twist turn, tuck etc. My Luke is so flexible (all that baby wearing) and it took nothing to get him curled into a little ball. Here are the results. I have a few absolute fav’s and some that will get stored away as too cute to get rid of.
