Lil Miss – Charlottesville Newborn Photographer

I just love driving to Charlottesville. Really, I do! Lush green rolling hills, fields, fields and more fields, horses, cows, windy roads…and quiet! It is 3 total hours of me time. Whether it is making all my client phone calls, thinking of my next master business move, or blaring the radio as loud as I want and singing disgustingly out of key. Point is…it doesn’t matter…it is me time! With that said…bring on more C’ville sessions :).

Now onto what this blog post is all about…Lil Miss! This young lady and her family were gifted a session with me…and I am so glad they were. She is perfect. It took a touch longer than normal to get her little 1 month old busy body to sleep, but once we did, she was good and sleepy. I wish her and her mommy and daddy the best of luck on their new adventures ahead…and hope one day I will get to photograph her again…she is a beauty!

Fine Art – by Marta Locklear

FINALLY! This is something I have been wanting to do for a long long time…and I have finally set up the shop and started adding images. I owe a special thanks to a special client of mine Melissa P. for the encouragement.

Over the last 2 years I have been adding to a personal collection of non related art images, with the hopes to one day offer them in Giclee printed form. I have been studing Fine Art since I was in the 3rd grade. And I continued all through college. I grew up as a painter, sketcher and sculpture…and had to eventually put those aside for my loves…my babies. Photography came along 2.5 years ago to satisfy an itch to paint again. With 3 kiddos around the idea of dealing with oils was darn near impossible, and that is when photography found me, and became the perfect fit in my life. Although I absolutely love to work with my clients, there is still a part of me that loves to create composition, color, texture, and art from the daily things that you pass by and miss the stunning beauty that they behold.

My goal in my photography art is to take those very things, and show you what I see in them. To show the simplest blade of grass, misted with dew, basking in the morning light can become a statue standing strong in a puddle of sunlit glitter.

I have only added a few for now, but they are a few of my more recent favs (a couple of these are going big in my own home). I will be adding more images, sizes and even note cards over the next few weeks. Please feel free to email me if you are looking for a specific size, dimensions and such for your own home or gift.

Here are the 4 I have posted now…and there will be a scrolling banner on my blog linking you to my Etsy store where these images can be bought.

Mr. Smiles | Richmond Virginia Child Photographer

Another one of my very patient clients…during the April Rain Reschedule Madness! But alas (barely since it drizzled when we arrived to the session)…we made it. I am always excited to photograph this little guy. I have been with them since he was cooking in mama’s tummy, to his newborn, 3 months, and now a big healthy 7 months! This little guy is a flirt, smiling, acting bashful, but always gives me the most amazing eye contact! Love him! I was also a little extra excited because he is one of my first downtown, city style babies. I LOVE shooting downtown…the textures, colors, and contrast to a sweet soft baby, are just perfect for photography…and I was so excited when they were willing to walk around downtown Fredericksburg and play with some city texture. I just love how they turned out.

Geese, Goslings & Automobiles…Oh my! | Wildlife Newborn Photographer

In Fredericksburg we have a big shopping area called Central Park…and no there is absolutely no relation or resemblance to the amazing one in NYC. But it does the job and holds my sanctuary (Target)…I frequent it often. The developers did a great job and put in many ponds, trees, lots of landscape,  etc…problem is….it has also brought in lots of Canadian Geese, and other water foul as well. But the Geese this time of year stroll through Target parking lots (smart birds), nest behind the Toys R Us, and wander across many roads of pent up frustrated Fredericksburg shoppers. Shopping in Fredericksburg can make anyone a hazard…a hazard that would put road rage to shame. So you take that, an automobile, typical road rage, and Geese and their multitude of little Goslings together…and you have an wildlife lover nightmare.

I am that crazy lady that will park her car and shoo the ducks across the road…or carry a lazy turtle to the other side (always take them the way they are going…or else they will just do it again…it is instinct). I am the one that will stop the traffic to get them across the street…since for some reason…they don’t really seem to see a need to rush. The 2 ton vehicle’s are just not enough, but you take a early 30′s mom of three and they scooch along at a high speed waddle.

In high school I volunteered at the Virginia Wildlife Center…I hand fed and raised orphaned squirrels, turtles, opossums, birds, rabbits, etc. You name it, I have probably fed it. When I met my hubby (then BF) I had 10…yes you read right…TEN baby Opossums. Luckily he was already head over heels in love with me, or else I think I would have soiled the deal when I showed up with those guys! Ever since those days…animals find me…or in todays instance…I find them.

Today after my morning session, I popped into Toys R Us to pick up my daughter’s bike that was being fixed when I saw a group of Geese and their Goslings. I have never seen so many babies in one area. So I parked the car…giddy that I had my camera with me, no kids to keep me from playing and rather people shyless Geese. There were groups and groups of them….at all different ages of development. I would guess just in that one area 5 or 6 different families…each with a waddle line of 10-25 goslings. So I slowly wandered over and doing my low level thigh squats started snapping…inching and inching as close as I could. It was amazing. Then….duty called. While I was at the back of the parking lot with one group….two smaller families were heading to the main road…and the honking (cars not the Geese) began. So waddled (I mean wandered) over and shooed them back towards their pond at the back of the parking lot. There is a guy out there with a cell phone pick of me doing this…maybe it will pop up one day!

So…lesson is…be patient with the Geese…especially with their babies in tow. Don’t laugh too hard at the wackos (ech hem…me) that stop and give them an extra push in the direction of safety. And do not bring all your babies to me…hubby will not love you :). Enjoy some wildlife newborn photography!
