Chiantia & Tim – Virginia Wedding/Engagement Photographer

I love to play with light…I love the way it turns warm yellow and glows through someones hair or through the whispy topped grasses of a summer meadow. I love the way it shapes a profile, and fuels a soft touch. This session is a perfect example of why I love light. It is also now my favorite engagement session to date.

I got to know Chiantia and Tim pretty well over the last few months while planning for their wedding in August. We had originally planned to do this session at the Cherry Blossoms in DC, but the weather just didn’t cooperate with us or our schedules this year…so what is the next best thing?? A warm sunny meadow at one of my favorite Fredericksburg, Va Battlefields. This field inspired me beyond belief last weekend…and Chiantia and Tim just made it absolutely perfect.

I can’t WAIT for the wedding!

Meadow – Virginia & Destination Newborn Photographer

It took us a little while to get to this session…but it was worth the wait! This little darling was supposed to be photographed by me the week before I left to shoot a wedding in Mexico, but the weather did not cooperate. So we rescheduled until the week after…only to come home at risk of the lovely Swine Flu (I did not get it, but I was not going to risk a newborn with it), so we pushed it up to the following week (after the supposed incubation period). The weather toyed with me all day, rain, sun, rain, sun, clouds…then finally…warm golden sun!

The only downfall of this wonderful little one, is she was older than most the newborns I photograph, so she was ready to check out the lovely meadow that we photographed in. Even though it was a balmy sun soaked 80 degrees, she was super alert and not interested in sleeping or being naked! But I made that work…armed with a bag full of my goodies (wraps, cocoons, yarns for color) and old wood bowl and a darling little girl with big glossy blue eyes, we were set with no sleeping!

Family Stuff – Virginia Children Photographer

When I got home from a long day of speed walking through airports last Monday, one of the first things my daughter did was bounce up and hand me an invitation to a special “Tea” at her school. My daughter had written a poem for a class assignment along with the other children in her class. Apparently these poems were then judged to have one selected as a representative for each classroom and my daughters was the winning poem.

I am a lover of poetry and used to write a lot of it in my younger days of time and freedom. So this little trinket of a win, or honor was especially exciting to me. My 10 year old daughter is a dreamer, she has a very vivid imagination, and reads a ton, but has never been much of a “writer” so I could not wait to see what she came up with that stood out amongst 23 other students.

So yesterday she brought home her poem so she could memorize it for the Tea tomorrow. I love it, I am proud, and I want to share it with everyone. I want to read it every morning, to start my day.

Summer Days

I am the sun.

I live in the deep sky.

I shoot my warm flames on flowers.

I spray butter on the hot summer days.

I wear a big shiny dress.

You can see me sparkle on the ocean waters.

When I go on vacation I visit the baby penguins.

One thing I love is the laughter of you.

by Marta Locklear (yes we share the same name….I have a nickname at home)
