She gets me. | Fredericksburg Virginia Family Photographer

I can’t tell you how many friends I have had in my lifetime. A lot. But not one for a real long time. I went to 3 high schools and 2 colleges, so the old school friends never really happened for me. I have finally set foot in one location for nearly 10 years and I still can say that I only have 1 person that I think “gets me”. I am not a perfect friend, I know this and I am sure I have let many friends and aquaintances down in these many years. Raising 3 children, helping run Jamie’s business, and now my own businesses has not allowed me anytime to commit to a friendship, which means they tend to just fizzle away to aquaintance status. Again, I know I am a good bit to blame for this, but some things are just out of my hands and it saddens me.

About 5 years (give or take…it has been a blur) I met the one person that I think kinda “gets me” (besides my husband). Our relationship started on a business front, she had a store, and I made boutique handbags. But in time (about 3 years ago) when she was prego with her first little one we really started to click and chat it up. From that point on we have been really good friends. We have seen each other in and out of businesses, relationship woes, pregnancies, and anything else you can throw at two young moms that were running their own small businesses. There were times that we grew distant, and didn’t chat for a while due to travel (she travels a lot) or just being so busy that a nights sleep consists of no more than a nap (me). But it never failed that we would check in with each other, and pick up where we left off. Never judging, never blaming, just understanding and eager to find out what is new in each others world. We understand that our lives are crazy, they are not normal and we do ten times more than someone you would consider busy. Understanding that time is valuable and when the other was ready we would be there waiting.

I have probably been the most to blame for our spaces in time and I am eternally grateful that she has never given up on me. No matter how long I take to get her pictures to her, no matter how many times I forget to schedule her girls session into my calendar, she patiently waits, and never seems to get frustrated with me. I can vent, ramble and practically spit a frustrated fire at her and she will never judge me. Just let me get it off my chest, feed me any advice I would need, and continue on. She allows me to be completely scattered brained and never looks at me cross like I am crazy. She has always been proud and congratulated me on my growth and steps in life (as I have her).  She has been my guinea pig since the beginning and will probably continue to do so and I owe a good bit of my photography trial and error lessons to her.

Jen my dear…thank you! Thank you for supporting me.  Thank you for not judging me and my not so stellar friendship ways. Thank you for understanding me and my world.

I spent a very hot hour with Jen and her 3 girls this past Monday (my kids in tow too) and tried to get some images of her girls. It was hotter than hot on Monday evening. All the children’s hair was literally WET with sweat. I did get some great images…but I know when everyone is cooler, and happier, we can get better. So there will be a redo (and more of Jen herself)

Lil’ Fussy? Not a problem. | Warrenton Virginia Newborn Photographer

I will be completely honest with you (as always), I was a bit nervous going through the images of this session. See little man here decided that he was not interested in being a super model of any sorts this past Sunday. He was way more interested in nursing, sleep, and being left alone! So that made for a long session of working him back to sleep in between prop changes (or any movement for that matter). Now don’t get me wrong. I cannot hate on someone that just wants nice warm, undisturbed sleep (I think I would give a limb for that same little treasure). He has his priorities and they are very understandable and good ones…they just don’t really coincide with Mom and Dad wanting some yummy newborn images.

Good news is once I did get through the “selection” of images I had way more than I thought I would have, and he looked completely restful and happy and you would never know that he was awake most of the time.

Inspiration | Fredericksburg Virginia Maternity Photographer

It started as a little Facebook vent that a couple of fellow photographers Stephanie Johnson and Rashmi Pappu, were not loving doing their maternity sessions and needed some inspiration. Personally, I LOVE maternity sessions and could shoot them everyday…all day (well, that is a bit excessive, but you get the point). Since I clearly can’t get enough of maternities and will do anything to get one in one of my fields. I told Stephanie and Rashmi to get a model (or two) and we would go play maternity session, my way. So they put out the word that a free session was to be had and we had more prego girls than we knew what to do with! While they were sorting out the mom’s to be,  I did what I like to do and begun styling the shoot. I already knew we were going to play in one of my fields, and lucky us all the fields are overflowing with Queen Anne Lace wildflowers right now….sigh!

So, onto the styling. Styling is something I want to do a lot more of for my clients. I hope that my current clients and my future clients can see through this session that it is worth the extra effort to bring the vision together. I was going for Boho Chic for this session. Earthy, natural and colorful amongst the white of the Queen Anne Lace. Something as simple as a straw hat, jewelry and a couple of flowers really took the images to the next level. Of course the lovely Mommies to Be added a ton. They were both so awesome, withstood the heat and did anything we asked of them.

There are going to be a lot of images. I get a little too excited when I have a vision, and it works out. Also there is a bit of “skin” in this post. If you are not comfortable with a lot of skin, please feel free to leave the blog or click here.

Do You Facebook? | Marta Locklear Photographer

Do you Facebook? I do…and WAY too much according to  Jamie (hubby). But it is the link between all that I do. All my photographer friends all over the world, clients, family, and darn it…it is just way too much fun! So with all my time on Facebook I have realized how much a few of my clients have enjoyed having their images uploaded and “Taggable” so all their friends and family can see their new photos. If you don’t know what “taggable” means you will figure it out. It is fun, not hard to learn (shoot, Jamie is on there now and loving it).

Anyway, I have made a “Marta Locklear Fanpage” on Facebook….”Why” you ask? Because here is where you can get an extra special treat after your session with me. Once you place your order, I will upload 4-5 images from your session onto the Facebook Fanpage. Once they are on there they will be tagged with your profile name or you can tag them yourself. Now all your friends and family will see your images on your Facebook Page! A treat for you!

So click here to become a Fan of my Fanpage!

And if you wish to see my super busy personal Facebook Page click below!
