Loving What You Do | Virginia Photographer

This photography journey has been completely unexpected, amazing, and tons of fun (and work). Never in a million years did I think when I started playing with my P&S 3 years ago, that I would be where I am today and where I am going tomorrow. I started this as a hobby, just to do something creative and capture my children…it has turned into a wonderful business that has no limits (because I refuse to have any…limits that is). There is always room for improvement, inspiration and innovation and I will never stop trying to tap into myself for any of those things. I love what I do (even the hard days) and wouldn’t change this journey for anything!

This year in particular has been mind blowing. Clients that seek me out for the particular style I do, a new studio space, new gear, several interviews on photography blogs and there is even more exciting news coming for 2010! I am busier than every and don’t plan on slowing that down at any point!

A special thanks to my clients that let me drag them into itchy fields, plopped down in dirty urban spots, and twist and tuck your babies into little bowls. You all are amazing and help me grow as a photographer, while giving you back a moment in your family’s lives.

Today I have been featured on The Savvy Photographer for a week long event all about Moi! Marsha has done an amazing job with this blog and it’s not just for the photographers…she has tons of great decor ideas, wall gallery inspirations, and inspiring interviews on photographers from all over. So click on the image and head over for a touch on me, and lots of inspiration throughout!

Football Sunday? | Fredericksburg & Richmond Family Photographer

It is clear that women need to get special memos about scheduling anything on Football Sunday (well at least things that include the dads). Just before this session my hubby was going on and on about the first Skins game…in my ears that is blah, blah, blah. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind football, but I can live with or without it (unlike most from the male gender) and I definitely don’t need to talk about it. But since I am a nut about photography and get a bit giddy, stupid and chatty about f stops, new lenses, “OMG this photographer did that” type stuff, I can understand just how important it is to them.

So sitting in the parking lot of the location for this session playing with my iPhone it clicked. “I wonder if he is a football fan…we are now 1 hour into the first Skins game…Oh man…they are driving from Richmond…so they have been in the car for kick off and everything!” Immediately I felt sorry for the Dad. Bet Mom had no clue since we booked this months ago. So immediately I paniced…a slight panic. Dad is NOT going to be in a good mood if he is a football fan…how do I solve this? I know my hubby would be a complete pain in the bum if I did this to him! So I downloaded an App on my iPhone that had live play by play Football…for any team he wanted. Phew…at least I could help a little right?

Sure enough they pull up, sleeping girls in the back and the game on the radio (just like my hubby would have been). I immediately told him about the app, apologized for the Sunday schedule, and that I didn’t even think about it until my hubby was running around the house pumping himself up for the game. As an die hard, “I have to see it” fan would do…he said “no thank you, I have it set on the DVR and I will watch it later”. Both his wife and I were like “Really?” He nodded. So I let him know, it is all set on my phone…if he starts twitching from the unknown…and needs to check on things to just let me know…he never did…I am impressed!

So to all you wives of football loving hubbies…careful of those Sunday schedules! I am now making all aware as well (since I like happy Dads).

Nothing much needs said about these two little girls. The images will speak for them :).

Little Man is 1! | Richmond Children’s Photographer

I just love my 1 year clients…and this one was no exception. We have ventured to many places together for our year full of sessions, and to end it at the beautiful Lewis Ginter Gardens in Richmond, Va was a refreshing treat (wild wedding coordinators aside…another story, for another day). This young man has just found his stride (sans knees) and wasn’t afraid at all to head off to see all he could see. So me on my toes, knees, full squat, wandered with him to explore the gardens…it was a blast!

Fall/Winter Mini Sessions | Virginia Family Photographer

This is the first year that I will be offering Mini-sessions. I know times are tough for many, and we have to budget our spending much more than before (believe me, I am feeling the pinch too), so I decided to try out Mini-Sessions. I will be holding the mini sessions on specific dates, and at the location of my choice. I plan on having some in the new studio as well! The mini-sessions are great if you want those fall/winter images and you already had a spring/summer session, are looking for gifts for the family for the Holidays, want gorgeous images for my new Holiday Card templates (being released soon), or just want a session but can’t do the whole shabang! Space is VERY limited!
