The colors in this session were just amazing. We even did a purple dress at the beginning that is not even shown here! This is a similar area to my first River shoot, but this time I was a little surprised by thigh high water verses the ankle high I had last time. Luckily my clients freakin ROCK, because they did not even hesitate to go wading to get to the locations for this shoot. We even threw in a bit of tree climbing…yes…I puffy heart my clients!

I have a quaint little studio with a ton of stunning natural light…and I just don’t use it enough. My photography started outdoors and that is probably where I feel the most comfortable. My options are endless and I don’t bore easily of it. Personally I am not a backdrop kinda girl. I like things to feel a bit more homey and lived in, less staged (although they are). So I tend to still find my way outside instead of in the studio. This session was for an Evolve Mentoring Session and I had some grand ideas for a Boho chic sun filled outdoor session, but Mother Nature once again had her own ideas for me. Last minute I decided to set up the studio in a bedroom-esque style and see what I could make of it. I must say, I love it. It is light airy, simple and clean. It is about the momma and her belly and the simple tones of her wardrobe. While the hunt is still on for a house (with many rooms for a studio), I think you will see me doing more “sets” in my current studio.

The outdoor portion of this session was probably one of the most adventurous. My normal river entrance location was closed, so we jumped over to the other side to an open access area. Little did we know that the river was a bit higher and the walking areas were skinny little trails winding along the edge. On the way there…it was just fine. On the way back…well….that was another story. It was raining…scratch that…POURING. I brought 2 large umbrellas with me, and handed those off to my two clients and used the large quilt I brought for myself. Skinny little trails on the side of the river quickly became muddy slippery trails. We carefully navigated our way back covered in mud and drenched (I was drenched). It will be a session we will not soon forget for sure!
