Baby Couture

I know it seems like forever since I have posted to you about my baby goods. To this day I still get emails requesting me to get back into the prop business. My photography business and my family needed my focus the last couple of years…and it worked. Even though I am busier than ever, I have help now…and now I can finally bring back my visions to the market. And this time, I am not alone.

As much as I would love to have this all mine. It is just not feasible. I travel, teach, speak, have clients, commercial clients now and more weddings than any year yet. So I have brought my vision to another, sharing my sketches, thoughts and ideas. Together we go over the samples (sometimes over and over again) until we agree that it is ready. The company is run by Baby Couture…not me. I will be a strong force in the design, color stories, and marketing, while the Baby Couture Company handles the product, sample design,  their designs, orders, shipping and such. This way I get to see my visions come to life, share all I have wanted to share, and still continue to grow my first love, my photography and still have plenty of time left for my family.

Please Welcome the Baby Couture Team with open arms….I have.

So onto the good stuff! The first line to launch TONIGHT after midnight. It is their Basics line. It is what they consider the foundation items for any newborn photographer. Simple soft color palettes, versatile designs and texture galore. They have started it out with a touch of the luxury you have grown to love from the past Marta Locklear | Boutique. Hand dyed silk ribbon hats, wools, silks, soys, and bamboo. While this line is launching, Baby Couture was in Williamsburg, Va today buying 4 entire new lines of yarns for the next 4 collections. A phone call to me tonight entailed descriptive words of angora, muted pastels, silk, bamboo, lace weight, Bolivia, hand dyed, guaze…just to name a few. My sketch pad is already filling up with the next level of ideas. This is where the luxury, OOAK (one of a kind) and unique items are going to start showing up!

In the meantime…head over to the Baby Couture Store and see what all this fuss is about! Don’t forget their Facebook!! For now they will not be having a blog…so Facebook is where the updating will be happening. Of course you will be able to find bits and pieces here too ;).

* Oh, almost forgot! Videos…I will be doing lots of videos using the products. I have worked hard to design items that are versatile. They may look like a simple rectangle to you…but to me they hold endless possibilities….so I will be sure to show that. You can find those on my YouTube Channel. I have also posted 3 videos from 2008 (dang that makes me feel old) using the Baby Skins.

Be sure to sign up for the email list too to get email updates!

little bit . kensignton, maryland newborn photographer

It was a lovely drive heading up to Kensington, MD to meet this lovely new family. Little Mr. here had his own ideas of how the shoot would go, we stuck to it and finally got him to sleep…and sleep he did. Once he was asleep I was able to try out a few of the samples for the new Baby Couture line that will hopefully *fingers crossed* be released next week. I am loving the textures we created!

elfkin ? . baby photographer

I was so eager to photograph this little guy. His mama was part of one of my favorite Maternity Sessions, so I knew he was going to be good to me too.

Along with his post you can see a teeny tiny peek into the new baby line I will be releasing soon. My assistant designer and I have been working hard selecting yarns, creating patterns, editing, re-knitting and finding ribbons.

knit . baby

The second he walked into the studio I was a teeny bit giddy inside. Dad was wearing a Fisherman Sweater. See….I grew up with these sweaters. My Grandmother and Mom used to knit them for us every couple of years and the site of them instantly brings back memories of family vacations fishing off the beaches of the Outer Banks. Not to mention I have a super duper love for anything wooley and knit!

Getting the chance to photograph this couples adorable new little one in my own knits and against Dad’s Fisherman was nothing short of perfect. I couldn’t have planned it better. Now if we could have just got Mr. Wideawake to sleep a bit more the session would have been seamless. In the end we won with a lot of patience and got him to sleep.
