studio | Richmond Virginia Maternity Photographer

I have a quaint little studio with a ton of stunning natural light…and I just don’t use it enough. My photography started outdoors and that is probably where I feel the most comfortable. My options are endless and I don’t bore easily of it. Personally I am not a backdrop kinda girl. I like things to feel a bit more homey and lived in, less staged (although they are). So I tend to still find my way outside instead of in the studio. This session was for an Evolve Mentoring Session and I had some grand ideas for a Boho chic sun filled outdoor session, but Mother Nature once again had her own ideas for me. Last minute I decided to set up the studio in a bedroom-esque style and see what I could make of it. I must say, I love it. It is light airy, simple and clean. It is about the momma and her belly and the simple tones of her wardrobe. While the hunt is still on for a house (with many rooms for a studio), I think you will see me doing more “sets” in my current studio.

The outdoor portion of this session was probably one of the most adventurous. My normal river entrance location was closed, so we jumped over to the other side to an open access area. Little did we know that the river was a bit higher and the walking areas were skinny little trails winding along the edge. On the way there…it was just fine. On the way back…well….that was another story. It was raining…scratch that…POURING. I brought 2 large umbrellas with me, and handed those off to my two clients and used the large quilt I brought for myself. Skinny little trails on the side of the river quickly became muddy slippery trails. We carefully navigated our way back covered in mud and drenched (I was drenched). It will be a session we will not soon forget for sure!

Toronto Evolve Part I

I know these blog posts are long past due…and my blog has been SEVERELY neglected. Summertime at home with 3 kids, swim practice, full photography schedule, more Evolve mentoring sessions, weddings, training help (whoot whoot) and I am sure much much more has been quite the challenge this year. I am trying to do all I can to bring on more help to make this business run smoother and more efficient!

Regardless, a bunch of blog posts are on the way and here is just Part I of many from Toronto.

Bows, Wings & Tutu’s Oh My | Fredericksburg Virginia Child Photographer

This is one of my favorite families to photograph!  Lucky me, I have them all to myself for this entire year! Not only are they super fun and full of smiles (little Miss as well), but they come loaded with everything girlie you can imagine! Each time I “ooh and aah” over the bag full of tutus, wings, hair bows (LOTS of hair bows) and outfits. It is like having my own little boutique to style their little munchkin in. I am looking very forward to her 1 year session!

This was also one of the sessions that Kimberly Petro worked with me on for her Evolve Mentoring. I kinda made this session easy on her with this family :).
