There is so much I want to say about this handful of images. This is my baby girl…my Bean just before her 8th grade formal. This day was “firsts” on so many levels. First formal, first pair of heels (cute kitten ones at that), first “date”, first meet the date’s mom, etc. It took all I had not to be that misty eyed mom gushing all over her.

The day we went for this dress we made the hour long trek to a big mall with all the good stores. I had prepped myself for a long adventure trying on a bagillion dresses in a bagillion stores. We headed into the first store and the girl in both of us came out! There were SO many, and so many styles. We grabbed a little bit of everything. On the way into the dressing room on the return rack I saw gold. Knowing my girlie girl and her love for all that sparkles, I grabbed it. I didn’t even look at the cut, just that it was top to bottom gold. She tried on each dress, hemmed and hawed and knew right away when they were not “it”. This happened to be the last dress…she put it on…and immediately said this was the one. She knew. After looking hundreds of ruffled, sequined, strapless, silver, pink, etc, I questioned that she wanted this one. It was gorgeous don’t get me wrong, but it was modest compared to what we expected to see at the dance. It was grown up. Classic if you will. I asked if she wanted to put it on hold so we could see what was in all the other stores. “Nope…this is the one”. Done.

She kept this little dress a secret from all of her friends. It shocked us all! When everyone was texting their dress pictures back and forth, she just gave them a little snippet. Why? She had a vision of the how it would all look and didn’t want anyone to see it until the finished look was done. Fashionista at heart. The full look is all her. She chose the shoes, clutch, nail art and even the hair style. So proud!

My Bean is growing up. It such a hard and wonderful thing to watch all at the same time.
