Why I Do What I Do

I started “Why I Do What I Do” with this image a while back…and after digging through many 2011 files and personally gasping over certain ones…I found those ones I gasped over…were the ones in between. The ones before the shot, in between the shot, after the shot that the frame was intended for. I was there, ready and watching and waiting for a moment…the moment…and snap…immortalized for the client and you all to enjoy. THIS is why I do what I do. I love the images I compose, create and bring to life from the visions filtering around my brain…but the ones that happen that I secretly snag out of the air…THOSE are the images that fuel me…make me love photography more than I already do (and that is a hard task to accomplish).

So here is to a new blog series for the year of 2012. Why I Do What I Do. Single frames…a capture in time…a moment happened…a moment unexpected.

The image above is of the lovely Bride Marina from her May 2011 wedding in Roanoke. You can see the blog post here.

really…REALLY! Every single turn in the day was another moment infused with nothing more than THEM. So many weddings are a step away from reality. A dream. This day totally captured who this couple is. Quirky, eccentric, fun. A girlie dress…Converse sneakers…surprise serenades…rainbow color everywhere…stop at their favorite coffee shop…sunlit fields…and ending with their personal tradition of late night Slurpee runs at 7-Eleven. A unique day from top to bottom and all the hard work goes to both of their families. The details were all done by them…all of them!

Courtney & Brett . Engaged

A little countryside engagement…sweet tea, hydrangea, tractors, barns, willows, sundresses (in the fall…we got lucky with the weather), grapevine hearts, soy beans…perfect. I am looking forward to their southern style wedding next May!

Rida & Andy 10.15.11 . DC Wedding Photographer

A small little hike around the Capitol Building on a perfect Autumn day. An intimate DC courtyard wedding at the Sewall-Belmont House. An infusion of yellow, gray and greens took the edge off of the urban environment and made this wedding nothing short of perfectly lovely and breath of fresh air. Plus, I am just slightly partial to the succulents used ;). You may recognize this lovely couple from their Dupont Circle Engagement session, if not…be sure to take a peek!

Congrats to you both and thank you for having me capture this day for you!
